About Military Working Dog Slovak L391

MWD Slovak was assigned to the 28 Security Forces Squadron, Ellsworth AFB, SD after his completion of training from the Military Working Dog Center in San Antonio, TX. I first met Slovak June of 2010 when I was assigned to the unit. He was my very first Military Working Dog and our bond grew quick. We worked everyday getting ready for our deployment to Afghanistan and we excelled as a team during our pre-deployment training in Nevada. Prior to our departure, Slovak’s prior injury from his first deployment came back which kept him from going with me to Afghanistan. I went to Afghanistan with another dog and returned to find out that Slovak would be medically retiring. I jumped on the opportunity to adopt him and took him home in 2013. He’s been happy and healthy since his retirement but has recently been deteriorating from the effects of his two prior surgeries.
